Titles: Asian: 2; Euro: 6
Brett Rumford clinched the inaugural ISPS Handa World Super 6 in his home city of Perth to claim his sixth European Tour title. He capped off an excellent week as he led from the first round firing scores of 66, 65, 68 in the stroke play segment before defeating four golfers to win the final round of match play. Brett made a remarkable recovery from a season wrecked by serious health scares in 2015, winning the WA PGA Championship on home soil in his first competitive appearance for more than three months. The problem started at the Tshwane Open in South Africa in March, when he ate an apple that caused a blockage and had to have 30cm of his small intestine removed. He played three tournaments a couple of months later but then decided to take an extended break to recover fully. As an amateur, he won the 1999 ANZ Players Championship in Australia the week after Aaron Baddeley did exactly the same in the Australian Open – the first time two amateurs had won successive professional events.
