After 24 top ten finishes, George Coetzee eventually secured his maiden European Tour title on home soil at the 2014 Joburg Open. He then added a second title in March 2015 at the Tshwane Open on a memorable day at his home club, Pretoria GC. George continued his winning streak at the inaugural AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in May, beating Thorbjørn Olesen in a play-off. He might not have become a professional golfer had a rebellious streak not made him defy his father’s wishes for him to become a tennis player. As with many of the young South African professionals, he cites Ernie Els as his golfing hero.
