One of the hottest young prospects coming out from India, Shubhankar Sharma had a strong start in 2017 with three top-10 finish in Maynmar, Bangladesh and Malaysia. The Hero Indian Open 2017 will be played at his home course – the DLF G&CC, making him a great contender for a strong finish this year. Sharma missed out on his first win on the Asian Development Tour after losing in the play-off to countryman Chikkarangappa S. at the 2015 TAKE Solutions India Masters. He continued his good form into the following week where he capped a tied-fourth finish at the Asian Tour’s Panasonic Open India. He had finished fourth on his own at the 2014 Panasonic Open India. In 2016, he enjoyed two top-five results on the Asian Tour in Bangladesh and Manila. He closed with a superb 10-under-par 62 to finish tied-fourth at the 2016 Resorts World Manila Masters, which helped pushed him into top-60 on the Merit list to retain his card for 2017.
