MARTIN COUVRA LEADS TEAM TO WIN AT HERO PRO-AM

French professional golfer Martin Couvra proved that he is among the names to watch out this year at Hero Indian Open as he led his team to victory in the much sought-after Hero Pro-Am on Wednesday at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

His team comprised amateurs Navin Raheja, Kundan Kumar and Mohit Nasa and together the quartet bagged the top spot with a cumulative score of 33-under.

As is the format in this key buildup ahead of the US$ 2.55 million Hero Indian Open, three amateurs were paired with a top professional. One of the most talked about pairings in the morning saw Dr. Pawan Munjal, Executive Chairman, Hero MotoCorp, teeing off with off with three-time PGA Tour winner and Hero MotoCorp Global Brand Ambassador, Akshay Bhatia. Their team, which also included Abhimanyu Munjal and Alejandro March, finished at a creditable 14-under.

Hungry for his next success after the Tour win in 2020, Andy Sullivan inspired his team of Sanjay Bhan, Executive Vice-President, Hero MotoCorp, S Bhagat and Mahaveer Singhvi to the second spot by finishing a shot adrift of the top team at 32-under.

With back-to-back wins in Kenya and his homeland, Casey Jarvis has been a revelation this season, and the South African gave a peek into what he is capable of by completing the podium with his team of Kaushik Dutta, Manish Motwani and Arvind Kapur with a score of 30-under.

In other contests of the day, Harish Gupta (2 feet) won the straightest drive contest on Hole No 8. Hole Nos 12 and 5 were earmarked for the closest to the pin, and Vijay Thomas finished top at 2’10”, along with Anish Sharma at 6’6”.

The amateurs who stayed in the mix till the end at the Hero Pro-Am on Wednesday gathered critical takeaways that will stay with them as they strive to become better amateur golfers.

The action at Hero Indian Open starts tomorrow here at the DLF Golf and Country Club as the first round get underway at 6:25 AM local time.
